ADOPTIONS
The Humane Society’s adoption services include counseling to help ensure appropriate
matches between companion animals and people.
ANIMAL POPULATION
CONTROL
Surgical sterilization is considered an important part of responsible companion animal
care. When an animal is adopted from the Humane Society, it will be sterilized by one of
our veterinarians. Florida State Statue also mandates the surgical sterilization of all
dogs and cats adopted from the shelter.
FOSTER CARE
Animals who are very young are often surrendered to our shelter. Our program allows for a
limited number of animals to be fostered until their needs are met and they can be placed
for adoption.
HUMANE EDUCATION
Through radio, newspaper and television exposure, school programs, shelter tours and
educational booths, the Humane Society is striving to make more people aware of the needs
of animals and to educate the public about responsible animal care.
LOW-COST SPAY / NEUTER / MEDICAL CLINICS
We can help you find services in the West Volusia area at extremely reasonable costs.
PET ASSISTED THERAPY
Volunteers take “Pet Assisted Therapy” animals into area nursing homes, adult
day care centers and hospitals throughout the county. They provide social therapy to
residents in these facilities.
RECEIVING
The Humane Society provides shelter to which the public may bring in their unwanted
animals. We cannot however exceed our space availability. If we do not have
available space we cannot accept your animal(s). A trained and dedicated staff is at work every day of the year to provide a high
standard of care. |
