From the Desk of Executive Director Dear Members, It's been a while since our last newsletter, our previous editor, Gail Wilkins, went back to school part time and is working a full time job, it has been difficult with her schedule to continue doing our newsletter. We miss her as our editor but we understand the demands of keeping up with her home life, work, and now school. We applaud her for her unselfish commitment working on our newsletter for several years and we wish her the best with her new endeavors. I am happy to share with you some good news about our Senior Citizens, many of our senior animals have been adopted into homes that are happy to have older pets. Even though these animals are older, their quality of life and health were good and they can live their final days in a loving home. We still have a few older animals at the shelter, so if you feel you would like to try one of our senior citizens, we'd love to have you visit us for more information on these pets. For our members and friends we say thank you for your support over the past years. But, on a lower note, we are at a crucial time with our funds to operate on a daily basis, in addition, some of our pets have tested positive for heartworms. The treatment can run as high as $200.00. Unfortunately our bank account limits us to these treatments. Many of our members and volunteers have graciously helped us out with medical expenses. However, at this time we have had to make a decision to down scale our operations due to lack of funds, since 1998 we have operated independent of any county funding. This unfortunate situation has left us with empty cages, as we adopt out a dog or cat we are unable to replace their spot at this time with another animal due to the financial crunch that we are now experiencing. We pray that if any member knows of a business person that is looking for a tax deduction for their business, please let them know about us. Next year we will be celebrating our 50th Anniversary, we hope to have several activities where all of our friends can join in. All donations are greatly appreciated, and are tax deductible. Sincerely, "Good people are kind to their animals, but a mean person is cruel." (Proverbs I2: IO CEV). |
